To meet the demands of modern EV production, VDL Nedcar turned to Ansomat Operator Guidance to streamline and errorproof its manual battery assembly process. With contracts from multiple EV battery suppliers, the company faced high variability and complexity on the shop floor, each variant requiring precise, traceable operator actions.
In collaboration with TNO, we conducted a series of controlled tests to evaluate whether an operator’s skill level influences the quality and performance of EV battery assembly when using Ansomat Digital Guidance. Two test groups with varying experience levels, including students with little to no manufacturing background were tasked with identical assembly procedures. The results were clear: both groups performed at a consistently high level, demonstrating minimal errors and strong process adherence. This proved that Ansomat’s operator guidance system enables even unskilled or inexperienced individuals to execute complex assembly tasks reliably and accurately, simply by following the structured, step-by-step instructions provided. The operator guidance system effectively eliminates variability caused by differing skill levels, ensuring consistent outcomes across the board.
We delivered a turnkey operator guidance solution tailored to this challenge. At the heart of the system is Ansomat’s operator guidance technology, which ensures every step is executed correctly and consistently. The system controls and verifies operator actions in real time, reducing human error and improving overall process reliability.
To further secure picking accuracy, we integrated two smart picking cards, ensuring the right components are selected for each variant. Operators are supported visually through augmented reality (AR) cues that clearly indicate each required action. Additional, detailed instructiwons are displayed on the workstation’s PC screen, creating a seamless, guided experience from start to finish. manufacturing.
